Mahya Moshtagh
Nursing Graduate | Researcher
Prospective Graduate Student
I am a nursing graduate with experience in clinical practice and quantitative health research. My research interests include nursing workforce and health services, epidemiology and population health, digital health, and patient-centered outcomes. I am currently preparing for graduate studies and research opportunities in Canada.
A Short Introduction
My interest in research grew out of clinical nursing practice. During my BSc training and clinical work across emergency, critical care, neonatal and perioperative recovery settings, I saw how care environments, clinical workflows and organizational conditions can shape the experiences of both patients and healthcare professionals. That observation led me toward quantitative health research as a way to study these patterns systematically and contribute to evidence that can improve both patient outcomes and the working conditions of clinical staff.
Research Interests
My research interests connect clinical nursing experience with quantitative health research, healthcare systems and emerging health technologies, spanning workforce outcomes, digital health, aging and patient-centred care.
Health Services, Nursing Workforce & Population Health
My starting point is a comparative study of nurses’ job satisfaction. I am interested in how healthcare delivery, workforce conditions and health-service design shape both patient outcomes and population health more broadly.
Digital Health, AI & Health Technology Implementation
Through a VR research proposal and a conceptual AI-assisted planning project, I’ve become interested in how digital health tools are evaluated and implemented, and in the responsible, patient-centred use of technologies like AI in healthcare.
Aging, Rehabilitation & Technology-Supported Care
A conceptual project on healthy aging and community health introduced me to questions about how supportive services, age-friendly environments and emerging technologies can help older adults maintain independence, participation and quality of life.
Patient-Centred Clinical & Life-Course Health
My clinical work across emergency, critical care, neonatal and recovery settings shapes my interest in how patients and families experience symptoms, stress and care across different clinical settings and life stages.
Featured Research & Projects
The examples below represent three different dimensions of my background: a completed empirical study, a clinical research proposal, and an interdisciplinary health-technology planning project.
Cross-Sectional Research Study · Manuscript in Final Revision
Job Satisfaction Among Clinical and School Nurses: A Comparative Cross-Sectional Study
A comparative cross-sectional study examining job satisfaction among 286 nurses in Karaj, Iran, including clinical and school nurses. My role included questionnaire-based data collection, SPSS-based analysis and manuscript preparation, comparing overall satisfaction and domain-specific patterns across the two groups’ distinct work settings.
Research Proposal
Virtual Reality for Pain, Anxiety, and Physiological Responses in Burn Patients
A research proposal exploring virtual reality as a supportive, non-pharmacological intervention for pain and anxiety in burn care. Developed during my clinical research training, it outlines a patient-centred study design connecting digital health tools with symptom management in a demanding, high-acuity clinical population.
Conceptual Health Innovation Project
AI-Assisted COVID-19 Detection Using Chest CT Images
A collaborative academic planning project exploring how a proposed physician-support system using chest CT images might assist COVID-19 detection. Developed as part of an academic entrepreneurship exercise, it considers implementation, clinical workflow and ethical questions around introducing AI-based tools into diagnostic decision-making.
Background at a Glance
Education
Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Alborz University of Medical Sciences in Karaj, Iran (2016–2021), where I was ranked first academically among the entering cohort. My coursework combined clinical training with an early grounding in research methods and evidence-based practice.
Clinical Background
Clinical nursing experience across emergency, intensive care, neonatal intensive care and perioperative/recovery settings at Erfan, Rajaei, Adl and Sadr hospitals. This experience built my familiarity with high-acuity teamwork, patient safety practices and the day-to-day realities of healthcare delivery.
Research Experience
Quantitative and survey-based research experience built through a comparative cross-sectional study of nurse job satisfaction, including questionnaire-based data collection, SPSS analysis, table preparation and manuscript writing. I have also developed research proposals and literature-based academic writing on clinical topics.
